Following the close of the candidate filing deadline in Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District, with no challenger successfully filing against Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), FreedomWorks for America Chairman Adam Brandon commented:

“This is another huge victory for the conservative grassroots. In his first year in Congress, Rep. Dave Brat has shown fire in his belly and dedication to principle, with the first vote he cast being against John Boehner for Speaker of the House.”

“After Dave Brat’s historic defeat of Eric Cantor in 2014, the establishment painted a huge target on his back. When the Chamber of Commerce announced their intention to go after conservative incumbents, we knew that defending these guys had to be our number one priority. We’re extremely pleased that our efforts to support Rep. Brat, along with other members of the House Freedom Caucus, have been successful in chasing away establishment-backed challengers.”

FreedomWorks for America made more than $60,000 worth of independent expenditures for Brat in the 2016 election cycle. The independent expenditures included a television ad buy that ran in the district in October and yard signs and literature that were distributed at RPV Advance in December.
