ObamaCare Backer Supports Lugar

By Matt Kibbe, 03/28/12

As we mark the third day of oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court over the constitutionality of ObamaCare, it’s important to set the record straight in how America got here.

ObamaCare passed—not just because of liberal Democrats—but because Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi relied on the support of Republicans-In-Name-Only (RINOs). Senator Arlen Specter, one of these RINOs, switched his affiliation to Democrat and cast the decisive 60th vote to pass ObamaCare in the Senate. After this betrayal, Specter was defeated in the 2010 midterm election and was replaced by limited government champion Sen. Pat Toomey.

In a recent television appearance, Specter urged Indiana voters to support his crony and fellow RINO, Dick Lugar:

And in an article entitled, “Dick Lugar’s Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week”, Roll Call reporter Shira Toeplit notes that the Specter endorsement is just the latest bad news for the fledgling Lugar campaign. Read it here.

The Specter endorsement is significant because Lugar talks a big game about how he wants to “repeal ObamaCare”, but the truth says otherwise:

  • Lugar supported a government takeover of health care when he cosponsored S. 1770, legislation that included an individual mandate.
  • Lugar passed SCHIP with liberal Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), a health care mandate which led to the passage of ObamaCare. He even voted to expand SCHIP with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.)
  • Lugar voted to confirm radical Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg—the same Justices that will vote to uphold ObamaCare at the Supreme Court!

Government controlled health care has been a dream of the Progressives for a hundred years. But if the Supreme Court does not overturn ObamaCare—it will not just be an achievement of the radical Left—but of RINOs like Dick Lugar and Arlen Specter who went along for the ride.

No Dick Lugar. No ObamaCare.

It’s just that simple.

Thank you.
